Junior Kindergarten Welcome Letter

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the Junior-K class at ACS.  This class is designed for children who are five by January 1st. Our morning program includes monthly themes and weekly letters.  This program gives your child a true feeling of Kindergarten by incorporating the following into our curriculum:

• Circle time
• Letter recognition
• Writing & cutting
• Phonics
• Math & science concepts
• Directive draw
• Reading comprehension
• Patterns and sequences
• Music & movement
• Math & science
• Large & fine motor skills
• Environment
• Arts & crafts
• Simple graphing
• Fun games
• Public speaking

Please refer to your calendar for the weekly letter or theme.  Wednesdays are share days and are a great opportunity for your child.  Please have your child pick an item that begins with the letter or corresponds with the theme.  Thursdays are book day and we encourage your child to choose a book from home to bring.

We use a variety of different teaching techniques and tools to hopefully find what style works best for each child’s individual needs for Kindergarten preparedness.   We closely monitor and assess each child throughout the year.  This includes:

• Portfolios
• Parent conference
• Bi-weekly take- home packet
• Daily one on one time
• School district assessment
• Extra time with a reading/writing specialist
• Parent Directory

Our goal is to not only have your child prepared for Kindergarten, but with an extra sense of confidence.  Although it is up to the child as to how much information is consumed, our hope is to expose him/her to a fun and stimulating learning environment.  I hope that together we can make this a positive learning experience for your child.
